“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
I am so glad for all the good advice we got about child raising when our boys were small.
One “advice” was the example of my father, who involved us in his farming and tire work
where we learned many practical things, as well as how to problem solve and very importantly, how to follow through.
Growing up on a farm made such lessons easy to learn: there was lots of work to do.
For our boys, growing up in a city of several million, we had to creatively find ways to train them in this.
Washing dishes was one, teaching follow-through, faithfulness, helping the family and doing a good job.
We started them on this when they were 3 and 6; and, as you can see, they enjoyed it.
Cleaning, errands, shopping, some cooking as well as homework, developed good qualities
that are evident in their lives today. Praise God for His provision and guidance.
